Beginning May 6, 2021, the HSU Educational Foundation and Step One Automotive Group will be conducting a Cam and Timing course held at the HSU Innovation Institute at 709 Anchors Street in Ft Walton Beach.
Please note: This course is only for students who have completed the Small Engine Basics course.
This course will be held 2 times per week for 2 hours each class. (Thursdays 5 pm to 7 pm, and Saturdays 1 am to 3 pm). The “Cam and Timing” course will be 3 weeks long, for a total of 12 hours and led by the Step One Automotive Master Mechanics.
Students, aged 13-17 years old who have completed the Small Engine Basics course, will be working on the cam and timing systems in a V6 engine used with Ford, Chrysler, Chevy and Fiat vehicles over the 6 class sessions. The students will learn that the timing belt, timing chain, or cambelt is part of an internal combustion engine that synchronizes the rotation of the crankshaft and the camshaft(s) so that the engine’s valves open and close at the proper times during each cylinder’s intake and exhaust strokes.
Course Dates (Thursdays from 5-7pm and Saturdays from 1-3pm):
May 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, and 22
