Cam & Timing Course for Small Engine Basics Graduates

This HSU Educational Foundation with instruction by the Step One Automotive Group will conduct a Cam and Timing course at the HSU Innovation Institute at 709 Anchors Street in Ft Walton Beach. This course will be held 2 times per week for 2 hours each class. (Wednesdays 5 pm to 7 pm, and Saturdays 10 am to 12 pm) at the HSU Innovation Institute South location in FWB.

The “Cam and Timing” course will be 2 weeks long, for a total of 8 hours and led by the Step One Automotive Master Mechanic Ken Whitehead. Middle and High school students, who have completed the Small Engine Basics course, will be working on the cam and timing systems of a V6 engine used with Ford, Chrysler, Chevy and Fiat vehicles over the 4 class sessions. The students will learn that the timing belt, timing chain, or cambelt is part of an internal combustion engine that synchronizes the rotation of the crankshaft and the camshaft(s) so that the engine’s valves open and close at the proper times during each cylinder’s intake and exhaust strokes.

The HSU Educational Foundation workforce development partner for this camp is the Step One Automotive Group.

Course Dates:

October 27, 30 & November 3, 6 (Wednesdays from 5 – 7pm and Saturdays from 10am – noon).
