The HSU Educational Foundation Game Changers event, scheduled for Saturday, January 9, 2021, from 1 – 3 p.m., features the technologies of local pioneers and innovators, Beast Code, LLC. During the event, the Game Changers students will work along side Beast Code software engineers to create their own single-page web application using Vue.js, a JavaScript framework, to pull in and display data from various Google APIs. Not only will the students get practical hands-on experience in web development, but they will also meet industry leaders and get a tour of the Beast Code campus. Each participant will need to create GitHub account, which is a free cloud-based version control repository. Student accounts will allow them to have access to the free learning materials and will have hands-on exposure to real world developer tools. Game Changers Saturday events are designed to be interactive, shared science and technology events for families – inspiring excitement while encouraging critical thinking and problem solving. The Game Changers program is sponsored by Gulf Power and usually meets the first Saturday of each month during the school year. Exploring business expertise and STEM technologies together sparks conversations among family members and can help students make connections to real world applications of their education.

This hands-on STEM event will have something exciting for everyone – each student must be able to follow specific coding directions through a computer processing program.
